17-Day Kenya Photography Tour Safari

Embark on the 17-day amazing safari tour from Nairobi to Meru National Park, to Ol Pajeta in the northern side of Kenya; the Aberdare Highlands; then descend to the Rift Valley for animal and bird experiences in Lake Bogoria, Lake Baringo, Lake Nakuru, Hell's Gate & Lake Naivasha, and end your safari in Masai Mara.

  • Day 1: Arrival at JKIA

Arrive and be met by our tour guide, who will brief you about your safari and set your expectations for you, while you will have time to ask questions and familiarize yourself.

  • Day 2: Nairobi National Park

Transfer to the Nairobi National Park:

Located just south of the city, Nairobi National Park is the first game reserve in Kenya and the only protected area in the world that sits so close to a nation’s capital. Visitors to the vast wildlife park are likely to spot black rhinos, lions, giraffes, and zebras, as well as some 400 bird species.

Beyond the towering skyscrapers and the deafening music from Nairobi’s most popular means of commute—matatus, or mathrees, as they are locally known—lies a haven of peace and tranquility. About a 10 km drive out of Nairobi Central Business District is Nairobi National Park, the world’s only wildlife capital that plays host to a wide variety of wildlife, birdlife, and the best scenic views from the park and beyond. The park is a popular outing space for families, couples, and organized groups.

  • Day 3 to 4: Nairobi National Park-Transfer to Amboseli

After breakfast, you will drive to Amboseli National Park, where you will arrive in time for lunch. You'll spend the afternoon at your leisure and go on your first game drive. The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to free-ranging elephants, among other wildlife species. The ecosystem is mainly savannah grassland, spread across the Kenya-Tanzania border. Other attractions of the park include opportunities to meet the Masai and spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa's highest peak and the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Even though the majestic Kilimanjaro is located in Tanzania, the best view of it is from Amboseli National Park (which is strategically located at the foot of the mountain). From the prehistoric site of Observation Hill, the sunset over Mount Kilimanjaro is magnificent. Your dinner and overnight stay will be at Amboseli Serena Lodge.

  • Day 5 to 6: Amboseli-Transfer to Meru National Park

After breakfast, transfer to Meru National Park and check in to your camp. Meru National Park’s relative remoteness and lower visitor numbers compared to Kenya’s more frequented parks like Masai Mara or Amboseli ensure a serene and intimate wildlife viewing experience. The park’s extensive road network allows for excellent game viewing opportunities, while its history and the remarkable recovery from past poaching pressures highlight the resilience of Kenya’s wilderness. Whether for game drives, bird watching, or simply enjoying the tranquility of the African bush, Meru National Park offers a captivating and less-traveled safari destination.

Dinner and overnight at the camp.

  • Day 7: The Ol Pajeta Conservancy

After breakfast, transfer to Ol Pajeta and check in to your camp. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a 360 km² (140 sq mi) not-for-profit wildlife conservancy in Central Kenya's Laikipia County. It is situated on the equator west of Nanyuki, between the foothills of the Aberdares and Mount Kenya. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy works to conserve wildlife, provide a sanctuary for great apes, and generate income through wildlife tourism.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is an incredible experience. Quite apart from being the most accessible of all the Laikipia conservancies, Ol Pejeta combines fantastic wildlife viewing with stirring scenery, a terrific range of accommodations, and some brilliant activities. When it comes to wildlife, Ol Pejeta is the closest Big Five reserve to Nairobi (although leopards can be hard to see). It’s also the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, and it provides a refuge for the last two northern white rhinos left on earth.

Lunch, dinner, and overnight at your campsite.

  • Day 8 to 9: Aberdare National Park

After an early breakfast, descend the Aberdare slopes and drive through lush tea and coffee farms toward the Great Rift Valley, arriving at Lake Nakuru National Park in time for lunch (approx. 3.5–4 hours) at Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge, and relax.

You'll enjoy an afternoon game drive around the lake, home to endangered white and black rhinos, Rothschild giraffes, buffaloes, and a variety of birdlife, including flamingos, pelicans, and fish eagles. The park’s acacia forests and lake shores make for stunning photography opportunities.

As the sun sets, you shall return to your lodge for dinner and a peaceful night.

  • Day 10: Aberdare- Transfer to Lake Bogoria

After breakfast, drive south along the Rift Valley escarpment to Lake Bogoria. Check into your room. Lake Bogoria is renowned for being one of the most important habitats for lesser flamingos in Africa. During peak seasons, the lake can host up to 2 million flamingos, creating a breathtaking spectacle of pink against the lake's blue waters.

The lake is characterized by hot springs and geysers. Some of these springs reach temperatures of up to 95°C (203°F), and they are believed to have therapeutic properties. The geothermal activity contributes to the lake's unique landscape, with steam rising from the springs creating a mystical atmosphere.

Lake Bogoria is a soda lake, meaning its waters are highly alkaline. This alkalinity makes it inhospitable to most fish species but supports a rich population of blue-green algae, which in turn sustains the large flamingo populations.

It is also a hotspot for birdwatching enthusiasts.

Dinner and overnight at the resort.

  • Day 11: Lake Bogoria- Transfer to Lake Baringo

Lake Bogoria is known for its geysers and flamingos, while Lake Baringo is a popular destination for birdwatching and boat trips.

The journey between the two lakes is relatively short, and you can expect to reach Lake Baringo in under an hour, depending on the specific location within each lake area.

Drive northwards to arrive at Lake Baringo within an hour. Check in to your lodge, and then head for the activities at the lake, including fishing, boat riding, animal watching game drives, and bird watching.

The lake has an area of 50 square miles (129 square km), is 11 miles (18 km) long and 5 miles (8 km) wide, and has an average depth of 17 feet (5 m). A freshwater lake with no visible outlet, its waters seep into lavas at its northern end, where a rocky shore contrasts with the alluvial flat on its southern border. A great variety of birds inhabit the lake, which is also home to hippopotamuses and crocodiles.

Lunch, dinner, and overnight at your lodge.

  • Day 12: Lake Baringo-Transfer to Lake Nakuru

After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Nakuru National Park. You will enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Great Rift Valley as you travel along the basin of the Great Rift Valley. You will arrive in time for lunch and check in at Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge. In the afternoon, you'll enjoy a game drive at the Lake Nakuru National Park.

Here is a short description of Lake Nakuru.

Lake Nakuru is one of the Rift Valley lakes at an elevation of 1,754 m (5,755 ft) above sea level. It lies to the south of Nakuru, in the Rift Valley, and is protected by Lake Nakuru National Park. The lake's abundance of algae attracts a vast quantity of flamingos that famously line the shore. Other bird species, warthogs, baboons, and large mammals are also present at the lake. Eastern black rhinos and southern white rhinos have also been introduced in this area.

From the park you will be transported to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

  • Day 13: Lake Nakuru-Transfer to Hells Gate National park

  • Day 14: Lake Naivasha

After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Naivasha. On arrival, you will check into the hotel and spend the mid-morning at your leisure with a boat ride on Lake Naivasha, reaching Crescent Island, where you will have your picnic lunch. Dinner and your overnight stay at your hotel

Here is a short description of Lake Naivasha.

Lake Naivasha is a beautiful freshwater lake, fringed by thick papyrus. The lake and its surroundings are rich in natural bounty, and the fertile soils and water supply have made this one of Kenya's prime agricultural regions. Much of the lake is surrounded by forests of the yellow-barked acacia xanthophyll, known as the yellow fever tree. These forests abound with birdlife, and Naivasha is known as a world-class birding destination. The waters of the lake draw a great range of game to these shores. Giraffes wander among the acacia, buffalo wallow in the swamps, and Colobus monkeys call from the treetops while the lakes' large hippo population sleeps the day out in the shallows.

  • Day 15: Lake Naivasha -Transfer to Masai Mara

After breakfast, you will check out and drive to the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve via Narok town. Upon arrival, you will commence on a game drive. You will check in and have lunch at Enkorok Mara Camp. In the afternoon, you will enjoy a game drive and return to the lodge/camp for dinner and your overnight stay.

  • Day 16: Masai Mara all Day

You'll have breakfast at the camp and proceed for a morning game drive in the reserve with picnic lunch boxes. You'll embark on an afternoon game drive in the reserve until sunset. A visit to a Masai village in the afternoon is included.

Dinner and your overnight stay are at Enkorok Mara Camp.

Masai Mara offers a unique variety of animals. This hilly region is both humid and fertile, as the rivers Mara and Talek carry water the whole year round. These rivers are full of crocodiles and hippos, with their banks covered in thick forest, which gradually makes way for bush and grassland. The abundance of water and food is the reason for the Masai Mara hosting so many animals. The Masai Mara is, in fact, a continuation of the Tanzanian Serengeti National Park and has the greatest population of wild animals in the whole of Africa. There is a dramatic spectacle, the annual migration of huge herds of gnus and zebras, that takes place between July and November.

Note. A balloon flight can be requested and be programmed on the itinerary.

  • Day 17: Masai Mara -Transfer to Nairobi

It has been 17 days of detailed activity shooting amazing memory photos. You have your gear and cameras ready, and you will take these memories away to share with your family, friends, and your world.
